Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club Donates Constitution Booklets to Local Students

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL/OCTOBER 2021 – The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club donated more than 500 Constitution booklets to local seventh-grade students in Port St. Lucie during the month of September. Constitution Day is a day to commemorate the formation and signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787.  The schools receiving the booklets were Palm Pointe in Tradition, Renaissance St. Lucie West, and Renaissance Tradition.

Rotary Club President Nancy Oldham was among those delivering the books to the schools.  “Our club usually does some type of reading project during the month of September.  This year we decided to give 7th-grade students a copy of the Constitution booklet, which helps them learn all about the most important document in our country’s history.  The teachers were very excited to be able to use these booklets in their civics classes.”

The booklets were purchased from Constitution for The People, Inc., a 501©3 founded by 15-year Navy veteran Joseph Cofield.  Cofield is hoping to ignite interest in the US Constitution by giving students a copy of the books to be used in classrooms and then taken home to share.  He began his organization in 2014.

In addition to Oldham, members Patricia Christensen, Linda Thayer, and Jeannette Weiss helped deliver the books.
